We all had a task to do, I was a carer who had to look after a service user of 70years old who had IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). IBS is a digestive disorder and it is estimated that 15% of the population are affected by it. IBS sufferers get abdominal pain. So when I had to make him food I had to let him choose what he would like to eat but I had to make sure the foods weren’t too rich or spicy for him. Firstly, I spoke to the service user and asked how he was and asked what he done at the weekend? I asked this because i wanted to find out more about him and also to make sure he was taking care of himself, and also to build a relationship. I then went on to ask him what he wanted for lunch. I empowered him by giving him loads of choices; a sandwich to soup to cereal. He asked for cereal and orange juice, but he didn’t like the orange juice, so I offered him apple juice instead. I asked if he would like to pour his apple juice he said yes, so I brought a cup and the bottle of apple juice over And he poured it out. I empowered him by letting him pour his own apple juice as this lets him feel more useful and he can do things on his own so I didn’t want to do everything for him, On the other hand, if it was a cup of tea i would be cautious about letting him pour the boiling water without suitable equipment to do it. As he ate the cereal I asked if he was enjoying it? and he nodded. I asked loads more questions, and we were very smiley towards each other. Things I could improve upon are asking the service user when they are fulll, and if he wasn’t then I could of asked if he wanted anything else to eat or drink. After doing my task I watched Maisy doing her task and she done really well with the task, I think that she done well as she asked questions and also empowered her service user a lot like i did.
my service user was a 70 year old man with ibs and a wheat allergy.
the 3 possitive things i done was:
- giving the man choice
- talking alot to him
- smiling alot
but i need to improve on:
- asking if he wanted more food.
i agree that i should of done that.

Targets
The care worker shouldn’t have hit the child. The care worker was also very rude to the poor girl. She asked for a plaster and you told her to go get it herself but the child isn’t qualified to do first aid, she shouldn’t have ben allowed to do it, so you should of gone to get it yourself. If you intend to be a care worker you need to be observent to the child and be caring.

This can be easy to undo the can or tin as either they have one hand or arthritis. It is easy to open and it is cheap as well it is at 9 pound 99p. it helps the service user open these things as they made be hard to open.

this is for helping people to put tights and stockings on in the morning.
this helps because they may not be able to bend down and put them on or may only have one hand. so it will be extremley hard for them to put tights or stockings on.

Somebody putting tights on. as this helps this lady cant bend as low as her feet. This bit of equipment is called a stocking aid. this is 14 pound 99p. so under 15pound and its very helpful.
